BRIMPTON

"BRIMPTON, a parish in the hundred of Faircross, in the county of Berks, 5 miles to the E. of Newbury. It is situated in a pleasant district on the border of Hampshire, on the banks of the river Kennet, and is bounded on the S. by the Emborne, a branch of the Kennet. The Hungerford branch of the Great Western railway passes near the village. A preceptory of the Knights Templars is said to have existed here in the 13th century. The living is a vicarageAsterisk denotes that there is a parsonage and glebe belonging to 
the living in the diocese of Oxford, of the value of £351, in the patronage of the Rev. G. B. Caffin, incumbent. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The charitable endowments of the parish produce £24 per annum. Some remains of another ancient church are found here."
